Why is sunscreen so important?

Everyone knows about the importance of sunscreen, especially during the summer months, but do you really understand why?

There are two different types of ultraviolet rays which penetrate the earth’s protective ozone layer – UVA and UVB – and both are damaging to the skin. UVB is responsible for sunburn and it usually burns the superficial layers of your skin while UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin’s thickest layer, having more long-term damaging effects like premature ageing. A good broad-spectrum sunscreen will always protect you against both UVA and UVB rays.

We always explain to our clients that sun damage builds up with continued exposure  regardless of whether or not you get a sunburn, making the use of sun protection indispensable year-round. UV rays are not less harmful in the winter than they are in the summertime. And we can’t forget to mention that UVA rays do penetrate window glass, which means you are exposed during your drive to work and even at your desk if your office is filled with natural light.
